Major incident at Tuskegee University, one person dead, 16 injured in firing

One person died in a shooting at Tuskegee University in the US state of Alabama. 16 people are said to be injured in this incident. According to officials, 12 of those injured were shot. Death of 18 year old youth
The shooter has been arrested. Jacquez Myrick, 25, of Montgomery, was taken into custody as he left the scene of the campus shooting and was found in possession of a handgun with a machine gun attached to it, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said. The agency said in a statement that Myrick faces federal charges of possessing a machine gun. The 18-year-old man who died was not a university student, but some of the injured were students, officials said.
classes canceled today
Tuskegee University announced that classes have been canceled today. The victim’s parents have been notified, the university said in a statement. Many of the injured were being treated at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery. Macon County Coroner Hal Bentley told The Associated Press on Sunday that an autopsy on the 18-year-old was planned at the state forensic center in Montgomery.

Tuskegee City Police Chief Patrick Mardis said the injured included a female student who was shot in the stomach and a male student who was shot in the arm. Mardis said city police were responding to an unrelated double shooting off campus when officers received a call about a shooting at the university’s campus apartments in West Commons.
