Lockdown imposed in Punjab, Pakistan due to poor AQI.
Multan: There is an emergency in the breathing of people in Pakistan. You might be feeling strange after hearing this, but it is true. Let us tell you that this emergency has not been imposed by any person or government, but on Friday morning the Air Quality Index (AQI) level in Pakistan’s Punjab province reached the dangerous level of 2000. In such a situation, people started finding it difficult to breathe. Along with this, other complaints including burning sensation in the eyes started being felt. Then the government had to announce “lockdown” to deal with the situation.
According to Pakistan’s Dawn News, the Punjab government has declared high alert across the state to bring pollution under control. Besides, other precautionary measures including lockdown have been taken. In this, people have been banned from visiting all the parks and museums of the state till November 17. According to the government, the level of PM has also been found to be 2.5. In such a situation, there is a danger of huge harm to people’s health due to the pollutants present in the air. The level of pollutants in the air has reached 947 micrograms per cubic meter, which is more than 189.4 times the World Health Organization (WHO) IQAir guideline.
AQI level crosses 2300 in Multan
According to Global Health, levels more than 5 micrograms per cubic meter are extremely dangerous for people’s health. But the AQI in Multan had crossed the level of 980 by 10 pm. Which is more than 3 times the dangerous mark of 300 AQI. Three AQI meters were installed in this city of Pakistan. One of them was in WWF office, the second in Shamshad Colony and the third in Multan Cantonment. The AQI levels here were recorded at 2316, 1635 and 1527 respectively.
Separate emergency and OPD in hospital for smog affected people
Smog situation was almost similar in Multan and its surrounding districts Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh and Khanewal. Where visibility on the roads became extremely low due to smog and pollution. In view of this dangerous AQI, two counters have been made for smog affected people in Multan’s largest state hospital Nishar Hospital. One is emergency and the other is OPD. Multan Deputy Commissioner Wasim Hamid Sindhu announced a short lockdown on Friday. The traffic police has also started taking strict action against vehicles emitting smoke. The city council has directed to take strict action against burning of weeds.
Schools closed, children banned from playing
In view of the poor air quality, the situation has become so bad that the administration has closed schools and banned children from playing outside in the playground. People are complaining of sore throat and difficulty in breathing. In Lahore, Pakistan, the AQI level has been recorded at 1000 till 12 am. Whereas it is among the most polluted cities in the world.
Complete ban on people leaving their homes
According to Dawn News, after the lockdown, people have been completely banned from going to parks, zoos, playgrounds, monuments, museums, playgrounds and lakes of the city. This restriction is also applicable in all important cities from Lahore to Nankana Sahib, Gujrawala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Chinikot and Jhang. An official notification warned of action against people violating the instructions under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Government and private schools in 18 districts have already been closed. Pakistan Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said that the above steps have been taken in view of the poor levels of smog and AQI.
